On May 11, 2017 Michael Iachini published an article on the portfolio management page of the Charles Schwab internet site that explains how socially responsible investing (SRI) has become mainstream.
Clearly and succinctly, the article analyzes the basic factors in benchmarking SRI funds against their “less socially responsible competition:” competitive advantage (annual rate of return); competitive return over the short- and long-term; decreased fee structure for SRI funds; diversification; aligning values with investment goals; and future demographics. The author’s conclusion: “As the once-niche market of SRI investing continues to gain steam and demonstrate solid long-term returns, we’re likely to see more widespread adoption of these strategies in the future.”
