On September 26, 2019 the Brazilian exchange B3 (formerly BM&FBOVESPA) announced the results of Report or Explain for the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
According to a press release, “B3 has announced the results of the third year of the Report or Explain for Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) initiative. This joint strategy with the Global Reporting Initiative (GRI) sets down efforts by companies listed at B3 to publish sustainability or integrated reports that incorporate SDGs – 17 global goals defined in 2015 by the United Nations (UN).
The main purpose of the Report or Explain is to foster understanding of the SDGs and their progressive incorporation into the business strategy of listed companies. The initiative is voluntary and open to all 426 publicly-traded companies in 2019. Of these, 127 answered the questionnaire, equivalent to 30% of those listed at B3. Of the responding companies, 24% regularly publish reports taking the SDGs into consideration, while 6% intend to include them, or are studying the possibility of including them in their reports. The electrical energy sector accounts for most of the share, with 33 companies that publish this type of report.
Of the 63 companies listed on Ibovespa, 36 published their reports taking the SDGs into consideration, which accounts for 57% of the total. With regard to the Corporate Sustainability Index (ISE), 96% of companies considered the Sustainable Development Goals in their reports.”
